Kingfisher – A Day at Knole House

Updated: Nov 11

I was so happy to be invited to Knole House in Sevenoaks for a “meet the artist” event.

Knole has most definitely been my happy place ever since my childhood and I am so honoured that my artwork is sold in their beautiful gift shop through prints and cards.

I chose to spend the day working on a pastel piece of a kingfisher – a creature I’ve been eager to capture for some time due to its breathtakingly vivid colours.

Creating art in front of an audience is always a bit daunting, but the warm and enthusiastic response made it a joy. I especially loved the curious questions from visitors and their children.

I began by sketching the kingfisher’s form, establishing the composition. Using soft pastels, I then blocked in those deep, rich blues and oranges, focusing on the striking contrasts that make this bird so remarkable. Finally, I transitioned to pastel pencils to add the finer details – capturing the delicate textures and subtle shades that bring the kingfisher’s feathers to life.

Available as an Original and Fine Art Prints

I’m thrilled to offer “Kingfisher” as an original piece, priced at £245.

Additionally, it’s available as a fine art print, each one a vibrant reproduction that captures the essence of the original – a perfect gift for the nature lover this Christmas, available for a special price of only £25, (usually £45).
